Henry Rollins on the Tom Green Show

December 28th, 2009

Henry Rollins is proof that intelligence does not directly correlate with formal education. He is one of the very few celebrities who can talk, at length, about a subject coherently and cohesively without devolving into a string of sound bites. He spends most of his time on camera these days as interviewer, so it’s nice to see him here in a lengthy bit as the interviewee.

While I’d rather it wasn’t with Tom Green in the interviewer’s chair – let’s leave it at “I’m not a fan” – he made probably one of his better career choices here and just shut the hell up for the most part and let Henry talk.

Health Care Nut

November 6th, 2009

Mr. John Boehner, Republican, gave a tea party speech recently. He is against a “government takeover” of the health care system. Now, as with any issue, there are pros and cons to every proposed solution. I do not know if the proposal on the table at the moment is on the whole better or worse for us, but I do know that it falls far short of a takeover.

Still, we are all entitled to our own opinion, and Mr. Boehner gave his. He stood before the crowd, pocket Constitution in hand, and quoted the Preamble as follows:

Now, those of you who have passed 5th grade may have noticed a small problem here. What he’s quoting is not the Preamble at all, “We The People…”, but the Declaration of Independence. A great document, certainly, but as one whose job charges him with upholding the Constitution, I’d expect him to know the difference.

That he does not lends an air of puffery, asshattery, and political bias to the whole of his message. We need leaders with working brains, working for “We, the people”, not sock puppets preaching party line.
