Can't be there, but I'm with y'all in spirit. Have they decided exactly what it is they are hating this time -- or do they make that up on the spur of the moment?

Maybe this is Dell's consumer support division. We have service contracts (warranty / extended warranty) for our machines at work (and we're pretty much a Dell shop). They've always been great -- easy to understand, helpful, and they're usually even willing to let us do the part swaps (of course, on many Dell laptops, a trained chimpanzee could swap out the HD.)

Oh, great. Now I'll have Ace of Base stuck in my head all day. Thanks, dude. (I s'pose it could be worse, though.)

For what it's worth, your IT department has at least one member who "gets it" and is trying to help. I know you're helping people, and this is even more important in such an environment. (I know; bits and pieces of Drexel's and BCC's IT policies resemble these. It still takes me a call to Public Safety and a 15-minute wait to get into our computer labs.)

Eh, but it's still voice. I prefer text -- there's a nice asymmetry to it in that it takes a lot longer to write a message than it does to read one. Therefore, it serves as an inherent sort of squelch control for incoming messages; anyone sending a message necessarily spends more effort in sending it than the recipient does in reading it -- which IMO is the way it should be. Nothing against Google; they rock, but I'm not a big fan of voice messaging, even with a Google take on it.

Or maybe it's just because I'm a curmudgeon.

i too have been navel gazing about evil for awhile now. I was even railing against the machine, got me evil panties in a twist and everything.

It still makes me sigh deeply, the supreme court giving corporations human dignities and all among other things, patents on genetic code... What will all that lead to, i ask?

Then when exhausted i thought.... there has always been evil, big evil and little evil. Now the Black Plague.. that was evil, slavery throughout the evolution of man, that was/is hugely evil. And there will be evil in the future. The key is learning to deal as effectively as possible in the midst of all the evil, much like you state above.

And evil is only good when it's the good kind of evil... ;) (evil happy valentines!)

Good to see you back -- hope life decides to stay a little less "interesting" for you for awhile.

Besides, I'd be the last one to complain about the lack of blog postings. (I.E. "Pot, meet Kettle." and all that...)

Please let Grandma know we're still thinking of her and wish her well.
